20 May 2009At the 2009 Spring Conference DEC meeting, Third District Commander Darin Batten issued the challenge on behalf of his District to the other ten District Commanders to meet or exceed the Third’s contribution of $1500.00 towards items listed on the published IVH Wish List. There is still time to raise those funds and show just how much we as a Detachment can really do if we put our minds and hearts together! Good luck and we will see you at Convention!

19 May 2009The Commander of the 125,000-member Indiana American Legion reacted angrily to the announcement today by the Indiana State Health Commissioner that the Indiana Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s Home at Knightstown will be closed and converted to the home of the Indiana National Guard’s Hoosier Youth Challenge Academy, a boot-camp style program that serves at risk youth.

19 May 2009The Indiana Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s Home in Knightstown will have a new and larger mission as the home of the Indiana National Guard’s Hoosier Youth Challenge Academy beginning in 2010. The state will proceed with plans to close the school effective at the end of this academic year and convert it for the National Guard program that serves at-risk youth.

19 May 2009The head of the Indiana Soldiers’ & Sailors’ Children’s Home, a state school for troubled or needy youth, said today Gov. Mitch Daniels’ administration will close the school Saturday. State Health Commissioner Judy Monroe was expected to make a formal announcement about the fate of the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s Home near Knightstown this afternoon.
